The roots of vine growing in the surroundings of Feltre.
In the past centuries the land near Feltre, the westernmost part of the province of Belluno, was devoted to vineyards and it produced a lot and well. Its wines were sold beyond the Alps and the vineyards thrived on the foothill sunny slopes. It was the 24th of February 1518 when Gerolamo Borgasio asked that the statutes of the Aurin winemakers , a hill a few kilometres west of Feltre, could be approved: The approval was obtained by a large majority (21 in favour against 13). In those statutes were contained both technical rules, and the relationships between producers and other forms of agricultural work. For example it was imposed that the harvest could not take place before San Michele or 29th September and woodmen had to pay attention not to damage the vineyard (Municipal Archives of Feltre, vol.34). Therefore it is clear that viticulture in this area has a history of many centuries.
Feltre is the home of Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park . It is part of the Unesco Dolomites Heritage System 3 and is located in the pleasant valley of morainic origin of the river Piave. Plenty of history and culture, the old town enclosed by Renissance walls with interesting museums, archaeological sites, buildings with frescoed facades has also a small Fenice theater where Goldoni staged his first comedy .
Not least the surroundings and nearby villages disclose breathtaking corners and landscape.
Few words to describe a genuine old style piece of world.
